What do I get with a studio academy membership?

With an Academy Membership, you’ll get a reserved weekly individual lesson slot with one of our teachers at our studios in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, in the UK. In the lessons you will go over everything in our syllabus with the ongoing in-person support of a teacher.
You will also get recording sessions included, whereby you’ll have a recording project every three months, to learn, and prepare for.
You’ll also get to perform in our Annual Showcase, to a full house at a local music venue.
The Academy + Membership gives you everything in the Academy Membership, plus a monthly Group Drum Workshop.

How will I be charged for an online academy membership?
When you sign up for an Online Academy Membership, you will be prompted to make payment for your first month or year of your membership with your debit or credit card. The card you make payment with will be charged every month (for the monthly option) or every year (for the yearly option), on the same date you signed up, until you cancel your membership.
How will I be charged for a studio academy membership?
After signing up for a studio academy membership you will be offered a choice of weekly lesson slots. Once you’ve chosen your preferred slot, an initial invoice will be sent to you to cover the lessons in the current month, plus any lesson materials that will be needed for the lessons, such as workbooks and grade books. After this initial payment, you will be asked to set up a monthly standing order to start on the first day of the following month, which will continue until your membership is cancelled.
How do I know whether to start at Foundation, Intermediate, or Advanced Level?
If you’re a complete beginner, then start at Foundation level. If you can already play the drums and haven’t yet achieved your drum kit grade 2, or aren’t quite able to play at that level yet, then start at Foundation Level.
If you can play to a grade 3, 4, or 5 standard already, then start at the Intermediate Level. And if you can play at a grade 6, 7 or 8 level, then start at the Advanced Level.
If you are on the cusp of a level, ie. at grade 2 standard or grade 5 standard, it’s best to sign up at that level. For instance, if you’re at a grade 2 standard, then sign up at the Foundation Level; and if you’re at a grade 5 level, sign up at the Intermediate level. That way you can make sure you have all the skills necessary to move on to the next level.
If you’re unsure what level you’re currently at, then contact us, and we can ascertain your level.
What are the additional Drum Workshops & Live Music workshops on the studio memberships?
At our studios, we put on regular drum workshops, where small groups of drummers of similar level get together and go through exercises and pieces with a teacher. These workshops are great for your growth as a player, as you get a good amount of time to work on skills such as playing in an ensemble, improvising and soloing, and time to improve the fundamentals such as technique, rhythm, rudiments, and speed. With the added benefit of friendly competition, the drum workshops really accelerate your progress.
The Live Music Workshops are when musicians of the same level get together to play music together. You’ll play as a drummer of a full band, and work on playing and performing a song. You’ll get to play with guitarists, bass players, keyboard players, singers, and more.
The workshops hone your skills as a musician and get you working on the things you can’t necessarily do in a private lesson.
Can I have more than one membership?
Absolutely! We encourage everyone to be a member of The Drummers Workshop, which is completely free. So you can be a workshop member plus an online or studio member. We also have students that are both online and studio members.
How can I cancel my membership?
You can cancel your membership at any time by contacting us by email.
