ACADEMY PROGRAMME
Become the drummer you dream to be.
At Drummers Academy of Music our aim is to not only produce and develop great drummers, but great musicians; so all our lessons are geared towards playing music and performing.
There are three options when it comes to taking drum lessons with us: become part of our Academy Programme, take Individual Lessons either at our Studio or Online, or become an Online Member and get unlimited access to all of our recorded lessons.
Academy Programme
Our Academy Programme offers progressive steps towards becoming a professional drummer. Starting at ‘Foundation Level’, the student progresses, eventually graduating to ‘Intermediate Level’, then ‘Advanced Level’, and finally to ‘Professional Level’, receiving a place on our ‘Artist Roster’, where each drummer has a promotional page, giving them a platform to achieve all of their musical goals, receiving many playing opportunities in the form of gigs, recording sessions, and auditions for artists of different music genres.
The programme is designed to not only produce and develop great drummers, but great musicians who are out there experiencing the thrill and enjoyment of performing.
FOUNDATION LEVEL
The Academy Programme begins at Foundation level and combines both Individual Lessons & Group Sessions, which are lessons in small groups of similar ability, where the teacher and each student has their own drum kit for the duration of the session, maximising progression. The Foundation Level covers the following topics:
The Fundamentals – including technique and Rudiments – as well as the basics in Rhythm, Independence & Time, Rock & Pop, Music Theory, R&B, Funk, Musical Theatre, Independence & Dynamics, World Rhythms, Jazz, Reggae, Orchestral Music, Simple & Compound Time, and Blues; all with a heavy emphasis on playing, appreciating, and understanding music.
As well as the lesson content, students will gain experience in playing music and performing – including along side live musicians – as well as covering all the content required to achieve music qualifications in both Music Grades 1 & 2. The Foundation Level will conclude with a professional video recording of each student performing to some music.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
After completing the Foundation Level, the student will then graduate to the Intermediate Level, which also consists of a blend of Individual Lessons and Group Sessions. The Individual Lessons give each student one-to-one time with a Teacher to go through specific areas and topics, and are combined with the Group Sessions to give each student time to absorb and apply the topics learnt in their lessons, as well as focus on developing areas of their playing, such as performing and recording. The group environment also encourages friendly competition, which further progresses each student, maximising their potential. The Intermediate Level further expands on the topics covered in the previous level, as well as covering: Groove, Speed, Double Bass Pedal, Disco, Soloing, Odd Time Signatures, Drum ‘n’ Bass, Gospel, Metal, and Fusion.
The Intermediate level will also cover all the content required to achieve music qualifications in Music Grades 3, 4 & 5, and will also conclude with a professional video recording of each student performing to some music.
During the Intermediate Level, we will also be looking at getting students involved with playing with a band. We will collaborate with local instrument teachers to put students in touch with other musicians of similar age and ability to get their playing career started, which in turn will upheave their musical development.
ADVANCED LEVEL
After completing the Intermediate Level, the student will then graduate to the final level of our Academy Programme, the Advanced Level. This level also consists of a blend of Individual Lessons and Group Sessions, again, ensuring each students receives one-to-one time with a teacher, as well as the invaluable musical experience of performing, playing with other musicians, and recording, that comes with the Group Sessions. The Advanced Level further expands on the topics covered in the previous levels, as well as taking each student to a professional level in all topics and genres of music. The Advanced Level will also cover all the content required to achieve music qualifications in Music Grades 6, 7, and 8 (with each of these final three grades being allocated UCAS points).
The Advanced Level will also include teacher training, giving each student expertise in breaking down all drumming concepts, and the ability to explain everything to students of different ages, abilities, and learning styles.
PROFESSIONAL LEVEL
On completion of the Advanced Level, the student will receive a place on our Artist Roster, giving them a platform to achieve all their musical goals, by receiving many playing opportunities in the form of gigs, recording sessions, and auditions for artists of different music genres. There will also be teaching opportunities at our Academy for all graduates.
Only graduates of our Advanced Level will receive a place on our Artist Roster to ensure that every drummer we put forward for all playing opportunities have received all the training required to be a great sounding, fully rounded musician.
All grades are covered from Initial to Grade 8 from all examining bodies, as well as transcriptions of songs from different styles and eras.
